Unexpected move, Kickstarter, and a new chapter

Published over 1 year agoย โ€ขย 2 min read

Have you seen the news?

Chinese people are now out on the streets, protesting against the stringent zero-COVID measures, the relentless lockdowns and the half-life they have been living in the past (almost) three years.

I am both proud and fearful of what future awaits the very people who welcomed me for nearly six years. ๐Ÿ˜ฐ

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, I had to move out of China๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ. It is with a heavy heart that I packed in a matter of days and left the country.

After a long 15-hour flightโœˆ๏ธ, I spent 12 hours in an airport trying to get some sleep before hopping onto my connecting flight, to finally get back to my hometown where I'll be staying for a few months to prepare my next move.

I will be launching ๐Ÿš€ my new business (coaching, copywriting, editing, and translation services) to help SMBs and aspiring authors reach their ideal audience. I will also dedicate myself full time to my passion for books๐Ÿ“š! It is indeed a new chapter in my life, one that will be quite exciting. ๐Ÿ˜„

There is still less than a week left for the Kickstarter campaign for Amaranth. Since I've reached my funding goal, you can click here and get your hands on a signed copy now! If we reach 200% of the funding goal, then you will get book 2 (ebook) for free! ๐Ÿคฏ Don't forget to share with your network!

As I slowly experience reverse culture shock, I first need to get used to the Arctic cold of Canada ๐Ÿฅถ. What a view after dodging winter for six years!

What I'm reading

This month, I read Wild Sheep Chase by Haruki Murakami, a magical realism story set in the late twentieth-century Japan. As its title promises, it is a very out-of-the-blue quest which portrays a disillusioned country following the aftermath of the war.

Here are some books I am reading right now:

1. Who Fears Death by Nnedi Okorafor

2. The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune

Book Promos!

This month, I am partnering up with a few authors of science-fiction, dystopia and fantasy to expand our reach and offer a stack of free or discounted books. If you are looking for a new read, check those out by clicking on the banner or book cover.

What I'm watching

I watched The Secrets of Dumbledore on the plane and although I am impressed by the richness of the worldbuilding, I had to admit to myself that I didn't care for the characters. It's a shame considering I grew up with the Harry Potter universe. I just wish J. K. Rowling had stuck with writing books rather than screenwriting to satisfy my inner child. We need more books (or maybe it's already too late...).

Current Projects (December 2022)

  • Kickstarter Campaign for Book 1 Amaranth
  • Write the second draft of Amaranth Book 3 (French Edition)

Happy Reading!

David

Hello Reader! *Have you read Flower of Memory or Amaranth? If so, I would appreciate it if you could leave an honest review on Amazon (just click on the title). I am planning on going wide and since I won't be benefitting from Kindle Unlimited's natural push, reviews will become ever so important. Thank you! This means a lot to me.* This past month I was busy helping other would-be authors prepare and write their own book ๐Ÿ“š. I feel lucky to be able to take part in their book journey and I...

Hello Reader! I hope February was as productive for you as it was for me. ๐Ÿ“š I completed the Kickstarter fulfillment with much more ease than I thought. Here you can see the letters of the Commander and some of the packages of the signed edition: I also finished the Kickstarter exclusive short story called Lion Hide, set in a completely different universe. I am considering keeping it exclusive for my patrons on a future Patreon. I am still thinking about my options, but I am definitely going...
