Exclusive KS Short Story, Fairyloot Monthly Box and the Handmaid's Tale

Published about 1 year agoΒ β€’Β 2 min read

Hello Reader!

I hope February was as productive for you as it was for me. πŸ“š

I completed the Kickstarter fulfillment with much more ease than I thought. Here you can see the letters of the Commander and some of the packages of the signed edition:

I also finished the Kickstarter exclusive short story called Lion Hide, set in a completely different universe. I am considering keeping it exclusive for my patrons on a future Patreon. I am still thinking about my options, but I am definitely going to create more exclusive content. Since the Amaranth series will be finished this year, I need to plan the next step.

Finally, I have completed a new book translation (English into French). The book The Man With Two Names is available on Amazon in English if you want to check it out. The French translation will probably be available later this year (to be confirmed).

It is a pretty interesting historical fiction set in Ancient Rome. Vincent Davis, the author, put in a lot of work and research in this book. If you are a fan of political intrigue and bloody battles, this is the book you want to read! I had a lot of fun translating this novel. It was really out of my comfort zone, and I feel like I have learned quite a few things about the legions. βš”οΈ

What I'm reading

I couldn't resist and subscribed to the Fairyloot monthly box. It's kind of embarrassing to say but I have never had a signed copy of a book nor a special edition before. Well, I never got the chance, really. Living in China made it impossible for me to buy and import any book (yay to censorship...).

Want to see the January box? (Warning: the book is beautiful AND seems super interesting)

Here are the books I am (still) slowly reading right now (I'm saving my collector's edition of Spice Road for later πŸ˜„):

1. Who Fears Death by Nnedi Okorafor

2. Babel or the Necessity of Violence by R. F. Kuang

3. Elon Musk by Ashlee Vance

Book Promos!

As usual, I am partnering up with a few authors of science-fiction, dystopia and fantasy to expand our reach, and offer a stack of free or discounted books. If you are looking for a new read, check those out by clicking on the banner or book cover.

What I'm watching

I am currently watching the Handmaid's Tale, a TV adaptation of the novel by Margaret Atwood. It is a story set in a dystopian America called Gilead, that has gone back to more traditional (and radical!) family values. Women are back to being housewives and are prohibited a range of activities. Atwood's depiction of an eerie future is shocking and eye-opening.

This show is simply amazing. 🀯

The character development and worldbuilding are top notch. The tension is constant. And the degree of realism is... very high.

The showrunners truly did an awesome job at adapting Atwood's novels and expanding on the universe she created.

The series currently sits at 5 seasons, though a sixth and final season is coming in 2023.

Watch it now! You won't be disappointed, I promise.

What are you watching? You can let me know by replying to this email.

Current Projects (March 2023)

  • Write the second draft of Amaranth Book 3 (French Edition) (30%)
  • Write the new draft of a non-fiction book about writing a book

Happy Winter's end (finally)!

David

Hello Reader! *Have you read Flower of Memory or Amaranth? If so, I would appreciate it if you could leave an honest review on Amazon (just click on the title). I am planning on going wide and since I won't be benefitting from Kindle Unlimited's natural push, reviews will become ever so important. Thank you! This means a lot to me.* This past month I was busy helping other would-be authors prepare and write their own book πŸ“š. I feel lucky to be able to take part in their book journey and I...

Happy lunar year of the rabbit! It's hard to believe that we're already a month deep into 2023. Lucky as I am, I was sick πŸ€’ for a week (blame the bad food I had the only day I went out!). It took me a while to recover my strength and go back intro writing mode, but I'm back! πŸ˜€βœοΈ I have been working hard on the rewrite of the last book of the Amaranth series.πŸ“– Meanwhile, the sequel North Star is in the proofreading stage, which means I can start thinking about the Kickstarter campaign for the...
